What to Consider When Writing a Persuasive Speech
Tips to Make Your Persuasive Speech Interesting to the Audience
A persuasive speech should be written in an organized manner. You have to keep in mind that there will be a lot of information presented in the speech. To avoid confusion, you need to organize your thoughts. Start with a thesis statement and then lay out all of the supporting arguments. Once you've laid them all out, make sure they're logically connected to each other. Be prepared to answer questions about the topic as well.
1. Consider Your Audience
When writing your speech, keep in mind who's going to hear what you have to say. If you're giving the speech at school, make sure it's relevant to your audience. Make sure it doesn't sound like you're trying to preach to them. Instead, try to speak in their language and let them know that you care about them.
2. Preparation is Key
Practice makes perfect! Don't just write down your ideas; practice them out loud. Try speaking out loud, and if possible, record yourself. After reading back over what you wrote, listen to how effective your speech was. Were there parts that were unclear? Did you sound confident? Could you easily follow along while listening to yourself?
3. Don't use Jargon Words
Avoid using words that are unfamiliar to your audience. If you don't know what a word means, use a different term instead. If you're not familiar with something, explain exactly what you do understand.
4. Implement the use of Examples
Use examples to help illustrate your point. Your audience may not remember everything you said, but they'll remember specific things if you use visual aids. Make sure to use visuals that are relevant to your speech. If you have to use a picture, make sure it's a good-quality image.
5. Confidently Play the Roles of Presenter
If you want to give a speech, be prepared to stand up in front of people. Even if you feel nervous, you shouldn't show it. Smile and nod your head once in a while to show others that you're paying attention. Keep an eye on your notes and review them before you get on stage.
6.Make it Fun Listening to You
Have fun! Remember that the purpose of your speech isn't to scare your audience; it's to persuade them to agree with you. Enjoy yourself, and try to have some fun while delivering your speech.
