Human development
Human Development Theory (HDP) was developed by Dr. David Bloomfield and his colleagues at Harvard University in the 1950’s. It is based on the idea that people get their basic drives from three sources: Nature, Society, and Self. Nature refers to the physical environment, society refers to social relationships and self refers to personal experiences.
HDP stresses the importance of understanding these three factors and how they work together. People have different levels of need fulfillment as well as varying degrees of satisfaction from these three sources. In the 1960's, Dr. Bloomfield identified two types of personality types, those who were primarily driven by nature and those who were mainly influenced by society. Since then, many studies have shown that a person's personality can change over time depending on what they experience.
There are four major theories of human development that are explained below:
a. Social Control theory explains how individuals develop socially and learn to behave according to the rules of society. Children need to be taught right from wrong and to respect others. If children are not taught these values early on, it may lead them to make bad choices later in life.
b. Social Learning theory states that children acquire skills, knowledge, attitudes, interests, beliefs, and behaviors from others. Through observation and imitation, children learn from each other and from adults around them.
c. Conformity theory suggests that people tend to conform to the norms, standards, and expectations set by others. They follow the crowd and do things just like everyone else does.
d. Social Identity theory says that people are motivated to pursue goals that help them define themselves and become accepted by others. They want to fit in with their group and feel comfortable with what they are doing.
According to Dr. Bloomfield, human development is a lifelong process that continues throughout adulthood. People continue to adapt to changes and challenges throughout their lives. He believed that people should live happy and fulfilling lives. An example of human development would be a child who wants to go play outside. As he gets older, he learns the importance of taking care of himself and making sure he eats properly. He makes friends and begins to feel more comfortable with himself. Eventually, he realizes that he needs to develop friendships with other people because he feels lonely sometimes.
It is important to know about human development because people can use this information to improve their lives. Knowing how our personalities develop helps us understand ourselves and how we can achieve success. A lot of people struggle with depression or anxiety, especially if they suffer from mental illness. Understanding human development can help people understand why they act the way they do and give insight into their behavior.
By learning more about human development, we can start to understand why some people choose to commit suicide while others don't. We can also begin to appreciate that people's minds are completely unique and that no two people are exactly alike.
